Jenni Stuart-Anderson
I used to work as a freelance architectural/interior designer and lectured part-time at a London art college. In 1977 I spent a winter in France, learning simple rug weaving and dying, and the following year moved from London to the countryside, converting my cottage in Herefordshire myself.
I saw some rugs made by a local resident on the floor of a friend's house and traced the maker when I decided to try the craft myself. She was delighted to show me some traditional techniques, and we remained good friends, although she doesn't make rugs any more. She is very proud of me!
I am into a sustainable lifestyle, waste minimisation, sourcing materials locally if possible, and other eco-issues. I believe in treading lightly on the planet and taking only what we need.
